Improvvisamente, quando sono rientrato in Ubuntu, ho trovato il desktop totalmente nero senza le applicazioni. Potevo solo entrare in Firefox e utilizzare le applicazioni nel menù ma il desktop non c'era. Ho provato a ravviare diverse volte con lo stesso risultato. Ho notato di avere ancora la chiavetta USB connessa al computer, nel dubbio l'ho rimossa ed il desktop+tema è tornato ma continuo a non avere più alcuna applicazione sul desktop.
Ma è possibile che Ubuntu reagisca così se capita che, quando sono su Windows, non faccio l'uscita sicura per i cavi USB. Tra l'altro non posso neanche usarli in Ubuntu in questi casi, in quanto trovo un messaggio di errore!
Tra l'altro non posso neanche usare il tasto destro sul desktop..  |

Con applicazioni sul desktop intendi che non si apre nessuna finestra?
Hai parlato di firefox, ma tutto il resto (nautilus, openoffice, gimp, eccetera)?
Niente di niente?
Hai compiz attivato?

Solitamente, se non fai la rimozione sicura in Windows, in Ubuntu non riesci nemmeno a vederli i dispositivi USB, e dovrebbe dirti che è impossibile montarli.

Finora non mi ero mai posto il problema, utilizzando tastiera e mouse collegati in modo tradizionale (porta PS/2). Hai avuto notizia di mancati riconoscimenti di queste periferiche, se collegate tramite USB? (Difficoltà con il collegamento wireless non mi sorprenderebbero...) |

Le finestre si aprono, ma solo quelle aperte dal menù in alto solito di ubuntu, tutto il resto era scomparso, quindi anche eseguibili e cartelle allocate sul desktop. Dopo tanti riavvii è tutto tornato a posto ma comunque vorrei sapere come ovviare in caso dovesse ricapitarmi. Riavviare venti volte può essere stressante.
Compiz non so cosa sia.

Esattamente quel messaggio, che non posso montarli. C'è qualcosa da digitare nel terminale per ovviare?

USB, difatti immagino sia quello il problema.
@Anabasi: Per il mancato riconoscimento di quelle periferiche mi è capitato una sola volta di recente. Su Ubuntu mi funzionava ma come entravo in windows non dava segni di vita.. Improvvisamente, dopo diversi riavvii, ha rifunzionato correttamente. |

Non funziona proprio niente del mouse?
Hai modo di provarlo su un'altra porta?
Prova a riportare la sezione Input Device del file /etc/X11/xorg.conf |

Solo il tasto sinistro, ma su firefox anche quello destro.. solo sul desktop non mi è permesso.
Altre porte no in quanto occupate da altro hardware. |

Nel menù Sistema => Preferenze => Mouse non vedi impostazioni relative al settaggio di un mouse USB?
