Vorrei installare una release di linux su un pc nato con Win Me con 512 mb di Ram ma che si installi da usb o al limite direttamente da Windows (ho montato Win Xp) per provare linux e il suo mondo di cui sono totalmente alle prime armi. Ps: ho provato ad installare Mandriva One da cd ma ho fallito 2 volte su due (l'installazione a metà si è persa).
Siete rimasti solo voi.

da usb non è possibile perchè sicuramente il tuo pc è troppo vecchio per supportare il boot da usb. credo che anche ubuntu si possa installare da windows tramite wubi, ma la scelta migliore è sicuramente da cd.
personalmente ti consiglio ubuntu: masterizza l'ultima versione a bassa velocità e poi installa, non dovrebbe bloccarsi. |

Quoto tutto, ma piuttosto che l'ultima versione (11.04 Natty Narwhal) ti consiglierei l'ultima versione LTS, ovvero con supporto a lungo termine (10.04 Lucid Lynx). Oppure, se proprio vuoi l'ultima versione, suggerirei Xubuntu anzichè Ubuntu (varia l'ambiente grafico: Xfce anzichè Gnome, ma è anche un pochino meno esigente a livello di risorse) |

E' possibile che sangiogallo abbia necessità di effettuare l'installazione da USB perché, per esempio, il lettore CD lo ha abbandonato.
So che molti aggirano il problema dell'impossibilità di avviare da device USB (nel caso non sia previsto dalla scheda madre) utilizzando il bootloader Plop installato su floppy: non ho mai avuto occasione di provarlo, ma sembra che con molti pc funzioni. Naturalmente occorre che il lettore floppy esista e sia funzionante. La pagina web di Plop è QUESTA.
